What Inbox Zero is about
What makes it different
Inbox Zero is an open-source AI email assistant and email client whose promise is blunt: reach inbox zero fast. It plugs into your Gmail and Outlook accounts and sorts incoming mail into smart categories automatically, so nothing important slips past. When an email needs a reply, it is already there β a pre-written draft in your own tone, drawn from your email history and calendar. Beyond cleanup, it blocks cold email, bulk-unsubscribes you from newsletters you never read, and gives you analytics on who emails you most and what is clogging your inbox.
It is built in public by Elie Steinbock (@elie2222 on X, elie222 on GitHub), who develops open-source AI tooling on camera through a YouTube channel about open source and AI coding. The codebase has more than 12,000 GitHub stars, has hit #1 on GitHub Trending, and was a Product Hunt Product of the Day. The pitch the site leads with is positioning: 'Like Superhuman, but free.' Privacy is part of the architecture β the company says there is no AI training on your data, it holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification, and because the project is fully open source you can self-host it if you want total control.
The email client itself β for web, Mac, Windows, and iPhone β is free. The AI layer is a paid add-on: Starter is $18 per user per month with sorting, labeling, drafts in your voice, cold-email blocking and bulk unsubscribe; Plus at $28 adds multiple accounts, Slack integration, meeting digests and an AI meeting notetaker; Professional at $42 is aimed at teams with team-wide analytics and priority support. Every paid plan starts with a 7-day free trial.
