How ChatSEO hit $33K MRR: the consultant who automated his own job

Paul Vengeons spent four years as an SEO consultant with no desire to start a company. Then a former client offered to turn his method into software — and ChatSEO became an AI SEO agent with 22,000 users and Stripe-verified $33K MRR, built on zero ad spend.

A €200 consultation that changed everything

The origin of ChatSEO is almost embarrassingly simple. Nicholas Dulait, a self-described "double drop-out" who had left business school in his final year, built Crumb — an AI voice-recipe mobile app — and grew it to around €2,000 a month using a visibility method he called "EEO," Everywhere Engine Optimization. When the SEO work got beyond him, he paid Paul Vengeons €200 for a one-on-one consultation. Vengeons, based in Montpellier, France, had been an SEO consultant since 2020 — agency first, then freelance — and was regarded by peers as "one of the strongest SEO minds in France."

Months later, Nicholas wrote back with an idea: what if you could connect a chat interface directly to a site's Google Search Console and have it tell the owner what to fix first — no dashboards, no jargon, just the next win? They then recruited Léo Leducq, a SaaS engineer, as the technical third co-founder. The French podcast Pile ou SaaS summed up Vengeons's arc perfectly: "Freelance SEO consultant for 4 years, he had no desire to start a company. He changed his mind the day a former client proposed turning his method into a tool."

Vengeons put it more bluntly on his X profile: "I created the tool that killed my job." That line isn't just a joke — it's the entire business model. Every consultant's method, packaged as software, sold back to the people who would have hired the consultant.

An AI employee, not another dashboard

ChatSEO's positioning is deliberately different from the SEO tools that came before it. Instead of another dashboard full of charts, it's an AI SEO agent — an "AI SEO employee" — that plugs into your real Google Search Console data (clicks, impressions, CTR) plus market-intelligence feeds (search volumes, SERP data, competitor backlinks) and answers plain-language questions with a prioritized action plan. The pitch: "Find & prioritize your next SEO wins by chatting with your data."

The product ships with roughly a dozen specialized SEO agents — keyword research, internal linking, indexation audits — plus an AI SEO writer and one-click publishing to WordPress, Shopify, and Webflow. There's even an MCP integration so Claude or Cursor can query your SEO data directly. The homepage frames the value brutally: €29 a month replacing a €1,293-a-month stack of Semrush, Screaming Frog, Surfer, Claude, and a human consultant. Whether or not the math is exact, it's the kind of comparison that makes a site owner's decision easy.

The timing was right. The team started charging in December 2025, launched publicly on Product Hunt in January 2026, and rode two waves at once: the AI-agent boom and the rise of AI search, where ranking on ChatGPT matters as much as ranking on Google. ChatSEO's tagline covers both: "The SEO expert that gets you #1 on Google and ChatGPT." Client logos followed — Zenchef, Captain Contrat, HelloWork, Fitness Park — proof that real businesses, not just indie hackers, were paying.

Zero ad spend, one big audience

Here's the part most SaaS founders will envy: ChatSEO spent nothing on ads for its first eight months. All growth came from Vengeons's own audience — a French SEO YouTube channel with weekly tutorials, LinkedIn, and X, where he had built roughly 10,000 followers by teaching SEO for free for years. When he launched a tool, he didn't need to buy attention; he already owned it.

Vengeons's philosophy, stated on the Pile ou SaaS podcast, is worth quoting: "Faire du SaaS, c'est un skill marketing plus qu'un skill produit" — doing SaaS is a marketing skill more than a product skill. The product had to be good, but the distribution was the moat. His own testimonial wall shows 2,500+ branded searches in 28 days on his YouTube channel alone — people searching for him, then buying the tool.

The numbers validate the approach. TrustMRR's Stripe-verified data shows $33k MRR with $206k in total revenue, and a September 2026 snapshot recorded 671 paying subscriptions and $223,519 in cumulative revenue. The monthly trend tells a story of compounding: May $28,166, June $28,582, July $27,484, August $30,616, September $30,707 — steady, unsexy, upward. They also run a public affiliate program paying 30% recurring commission for life, turning happy users into a sales force.

Bootstrapped by design

No external funding. No fundraising announcements. Three co-founders, self-funded, profitable. In an era when AI startups raise tens of millions before shipping, ChatSEO is a reminder that the alternative still works: a consultant with an audience, a builder with a method, and an engineer — shipping a tool that replaces a €1,000-a-month consultant for €29.

The deeper lesson is about who gets to build AI products. Vengeons wasn't an ML researcher; he was a practitioner with four years of client work and a content habit. Dulait wasn't a funded founder; he was a dropout who'd already built and sold one app. The AI wave didn't reward the most technical team — it rewarded the team that understood the job to be done and had the audience to sell it to.

The playbook

  1. Productize your service — Vengeons sold SEO consultations for years before automating the method. The service validated the product; the product scaled the service.
  2. Build the audience before the product — Weekly YouTube tutorials for years meant launch day started with 10,000 followers, not zero. "SaaS is a marketing skill more than a product skill."
  3. Price against the alternative, not the competition — €29/month vs. a €1,293/month tool-and-consultant stack makes the buying decision trivial.
  4. Zero ad spend is a strategy — Eight months of pure organic growth from owned channels kept CAC near zero and forced the product to earn every user.
  5. Turn users into salespeople — A 30%-lifetime-recurring affiliate program converts happy customers into a distributed sales team.
